The Perfect Summer Wedding Guest Dresses

Some of us are not going to leave the house at all this Summer, while others are restricting their outings to only attending weddings and special occasions alike with only those who they know have been quarantining. Who knows when things will go back to normal…hopefully soon! I was recently invited to a late Summer wedding, and while I’m still not sure if I will attend or not yet, I’ve already been thinking about what to wear. Last year I attended a Summer wedding and while my outfit choice was okay, I wish I’d done more research on what to wear before choosing my dress. This time around I did do some research and it looks like there are a lot of us asking the same question around this time of year: What Should I Wear To A Late Summer Wedding?

Since you’re reading this post, we’re probably in the same boat about not knowing what to wear. If this is your first time attending a wedding, there are a few rules to keep in mind while shopping for a wedding guest outfit. First, as always, you don’t want to wear white. This seems like an obvious rule that goes without saying, but it’s so important that it’s worth stating. The bride is the only person who should be wearing white unless otherwise stated on the invitation or by the bride and groom. Second, note the instructions about attire from the wedding invitation. This will tell you exactly how casual or dressy the wedding is and what type of dress you should pick. If the attire wasn’t mentioned on the invitation, reach out to the bride herself for direction. Finally, don’t wear anything that outshines the bride. This is her special day and you don’t want to take any of the attention off of her.

Things To Consider When Choosing A Wedding Guest Dress

When selecting a dress for a Summer wedding, consider the location of both the ceremony and the reception. Sometimes the reception is held in a different location than the ceremony; for instance, the ceremony might be in an air conditioned church or cathedral while the reception that follows is held outdoors on the beach. Choose something with comfortable fabric that isn’t going to make you too hot, especially if the wedding is fully outdoors(both the ceremony and the reception). Also, consider wearing something that fits you comfortably because you’ll probably be dancing and eating a lot. If your dress is too snug or too short, you won’t be able to enjoy yourself for the full duration and events of the wedding. It’s a celebration. You want to be able to have fun!

Enough of the rules! Here’s some of my top picks for wedding guest dresses this summer. I know that many of us will be declining wedding invitations at this time; but for those who must attend, I hope these help you, at the very least, by giving you an idea for what style you want to go with!

What are your thoughts on attending a special event right now? It’s difficult because we all want to show up for our loved ones on their special day, even in unconventional ways and times. Regardless, stay safe and stay well!
